Drugspotting : Ecstasy/Doves (6 of 9)
Ecstasy (E’s) is the name for the chemical MDMA - it is mostly swallowed. Ecstasy tablets come in different shapes, sizes and colours. You can never be sure what you are putting into your body - one example of dodgy E was dog worming tablets! Some E’s contain speed and LSD. E’s can make the user feel relaxed, energetic, happy, calm, warm and loving - but it can also make you paranoid, feel sick and grind your teeth. Little is known about the long term effects of taking E. Anyone who has heart or liver problems, epilepsy, asthma or is pregnant, should not take E.

Possible reasons for deaths from E, include hot and sweaty clubs leading to heatstroke (rise in body temperature), dehydration - loss of water, or drinking too much water. It is important to take a breather, sip water and cool down. A few people are very sensitive to E, when even one dose can kill.
Ecstasy is a class A drug - treated the same as heroin and cocaine, leading to a fine or prison. Giving E to anyone else is seen as supplying, which is treated as a very seious offence.
