Cocaine - charlie, coke, beak - comes in a white powder and is usually snorted (sniffed up the nose). Cocaine is a stimulant drug, which means it speeds up your heart, your breathing and your brain. When it first hits you get a rush of excitement and you feel alert and powerful. When it wears off you can feel edgy, depressed, tired, paranoid and weak. Too much will increase the bad effects. You may think you are in control but this can lead to confusion, accidents and violence. |

Speed (amphetamine) billy, whizz - usually comes as a powder. It is also a stimulant, seeming to raise levels of energy, lessening the wish to eat and sleep, but lasts a lot longer than cocaine. When it wears off the aftereffects are similar to cocaine and this may lead to taking more to avoid the comedown. Speed can bring on mental illness, even from a single dose. Long term use is very harmful. High doses can cause siezures and death from overdose. |
