Cannabis - also known as pot, hash, dope, tar, bush, draw, skunk, blow, weed, grass, ganga and marijuana - comes as a plant, an oil and a solid block. Its colour can vary from green to brown. Cannabis can be eaten but it is usually smoked, in what is known as a joint or spliff which is like a roll up cigarette and sometimes in a pipe or bong. If it is used in small amounts it can be very relaxing, but in larger amounts the user may become paranoid or have panic attacks. It effects people in different ways - making some people hungry! It is claimed that cannabis is not addictive, but some people have problems controlling their use and it is also usually smoked with tobacco, which is more harmful and very addictive. There have been no deaths linked to cannabis overdose, but this does not make it totally harmless. |

Cannabis is illegal. Being found with it can lead to a fine, youth custody or prison. The owners of the house or building it is found in may be prosecuted. Giving it to anyone else is seen as supplying, which is treated as a very serious offence. |
